Brian Pike - University of Portland Martial Arts
"Making The Case For Martial Arts On Campus"
Brian Pike began pursuing his interest in martial arts while an undergraduate at Indiana University, taking a Hapkido class during his first semester on campus. It was the martial arts community at IU that convinced him to stick around for as long as he could, leading to cross-training in many different styles, a second major, various teaching jobs, and eventually a master’s degree focusing on Recreational Sports Administration. His interest in the use of martial arts for student development led him to take on the role of Martial Arts Coordinator at Indiana State University, where he revamped the program and added 5 new classes. He has since moved across the country and is building a brand new martial arts program at the University of Portland.
