Incremental improvement, mentally & physically, is true power
Trial Lawyer, Ski Enthusiast, Martial Artist
Alan began his Karate training in the mid-1970’s under the instruction of Sensei George Takahashi (8th Dan) and currently holds the rank of 6th Dan. Sensei Takahashi trained under Sensei Hideteka Nishiyama and Sensei Masatoshi Nakayama, both of whom are legends in the world of Shotokan Karate and both of whom trained under the Founder of modern Karate, Sensei Gichin Funakoshi. Thus, Alan’s Karate lineage can be traced all the way back to the beginning of modern Karate. Alan is a senior instructor at the West Los Angeles Karate School where he has trained and taught for over four decades. He has also trained in countries all over the world, including Canada, England, Israel, New Zealand, Australia, Fiji, Hong Kong, Singapore, South Africa and Japan.
Alan received his B.A. from the University of Texas at Austin in 1970 with highest honors and special honors in Plan II, a liberal arts honors program. He received his law degree with honors from the University of Texas Law School in 1973. He served a judicial clerkship with Judge Homer Thornberry on the United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit from 1973-74. He thereafter moved to Los Angeles where he commenced the practice of law in complex business litigation.
In 1978, he was appointed an Assistant United States Attorney in the Criminal Division of the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Los Angeles where he tried federal criminal cases. In 1981, he resumed the private practice of law as a trial lawyer. He has tried numerous cases in the federal and state courts as well as in arbitration tribunals. Alan is a senior partner in the law firm of Kendall Brill & Kelly LLP in Century City.
Alan’s lives in Karate and in the practice of law as a trial lawyer have been inextricably intertwined for over four decades.
