Katy O'Brian

Katy O’Brian is a martial artist and actor from Indianapolis, IN. Her love for martial arts began at 5 years old when she started training Shorei Goju Ryu Karate and took home a second place trophy at her first Karate tournament.
Katy was able to continue her training in college through Indiana University, Bloomington’s expansive martial arts program. While at IU, Katy earned her black belt in Hapkido through the United States Hapkido Federation and obtained her law enforcement certification through the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy. She worked as a police officer and studied several martial arts styles while at the university.
Upon graduation, Katy was hired by the Carmel Police Department in Indiana. During her tenure with Carmel police, Katy worked on the department’s Crisis Intervention Team which specialized in helping individuals suffering from various psychological conditions such as psychosis, depression, alzheimer’s, and autism. During this time, Katy obtained her personal trainer certification and started competing in bodybuilding (figure division).
After seven years in law enforcement, Katy left the field to pursue acting in Los Angeles. Once in LA, Katy started working with the UCLA Martial Arts Program, assisting with self-defense classes and instructing the Hapkido Program. Through UCLA’s programs, Katy also developed a love for training Muay Thai and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu.
Within her first year in Los Angeles, Katy booked roles in AMC’s The Walking Dead, Halt & Catch Fire, Tosh.o, and How to Get Away with Murder. Currently, she plays the character, George—the leader of a post-apocalyptic nation—on Syfy’s hit series Z Nation.
